Hi there! Just wanted to pop in real quick to do a little grandma bragging. Today my granddaughter asked if she could make a necklace and bracelet from the bead kit that she brought in her overnight bag. Well of course! I cut the elastic string for her and provided some small bowls to contain the beads. She was a busy little "beader" and kept entertained for quite a while. I was impressed with her dexterity and eye-hand cooridnation. Then she got bored! She loves doing art projects so I suggested making a mummy. I had saved some cans and bought some rubberized shelf lining at the Dollar store. (A little pre-planning on grandma's part.) She was so excited. Love her 4 year old enthusiasim - and the fact she thinks grandma is a star! We made two mummies together. I had the strips of "fabric" as she called them already cut for a third mummy when her dad called. While I was talking to him she was busy working on her mummy and
tying the strips together! The fact that she could make a knot was pretty amazing to me. She never ceases to amaze me! So here is a pic of her mummy. She even pulled out some of her markers from her art box to put in the can. Too funny. She was concerned that the mummy didn't have a mouth, though. I think she may end up drawing one on him in the morning.
After seeing Dawn Lauer's Halloween display of recycled materials at our Holidaze event in September, I wanted to make one of these guys. Dawn is the Queen of recycling and uber creative! Dawn had so many ideas - my brain was on overload that day. Here is a sampling of her creative abilities.
Here is the "Mummy" can holding pops she made from marshmallows, then dipped and decorated with icing. A thoughtful treat for those who stopped by her table display.
Some of the decorations on her tree were made from Chinese food boxes. The bat was just too cute but the picture didn't turn out too well. (I keep telling you all - a photographer I'm not! lol)
Love her little Monster bags. The "sour cream container" (between the one-eyed monster bag and the cookie in cellophane on the right) - that's from an empty TP or paper towel roll!
The above Mummy was made from a non-dairy creamer container. She painted the cap white. See those coffins? - Velveeta boxes! Now how clever is that? Frankie is made from an empty nut container.
The festive little bottles contained wine in a previous life. Maybe I should volunteer to help get rid of the contents next time! Wouldn't you love to receive an invitation to a party in such a clever, unique way?
Hope you enjoyed the Halloween decorations. A little treat for enduring some grandma talk! Thanks for stopping by!
