Modified Split Negative Technique

Hi there!  Gosh, it's already the middle of the week and there's still a lot to do to get ready for another crop on Saturday and attend a shower on Sunday!  Yesterday was our monthly Hostess Club meeting.  One of the projects the ladies made is shown above.  My inspiration came from Deb Valder's video, which can be viewed here.  It's the Split Negative technique, modified.  The stamped square from the Postage Due set is only 1-1/8".  It is easier to have the inked stamp face up on your work surface and place the squares onto the stamp.  This can get a little messy removing the squares, though.  Deb has a great tip on how to remove the squares from the stamp without getting inky fingers.  She wrapped a piece of painter's tape around her fingers (like you would to get lint off your clothes) and just picked up the squares with the tape.  Very clever!
The ladies liked the projects.  I'm so glad because I really appreciate their loyalty and support!  Thank you again, ladies!  Afterwards, we had a leisurely lunch and talked. You're kidding, right?  Women sitting around talking!  LOL

Hi there!  Here it is another Friday.  Seems like we just did that!  How time flies when we're having fun.  Speaking of fun, today's card is another sample from our Card Buffet.  The Traveler set by Stampin' Up! was used for the train and valise images.  Love this set!  Four of the five In Color inks were used, giving the card more of a vintage look.  It's a little difficult to see the vertical strip under the postage stamps that was embossed with the Stylish Stripes embossing folder.  The train image was stamped, cut out with a Circle Framelit, and adhered to the World Map background.  Some of the ladies at our Buffet did a little moaning (all in fun, of course) because the valise required fussy cutting.

Postage Due

Hi there!  I'm back with another vintage card and the last sample from our Christmas Card Workshop.  The "poinsettia" was assembled from pieces punched out with the Mosaic punch.  A bit of texture was added to the flower "petals" by using the Petals a Plenty embossing folder.  Everything has been distressed with Soft Suede ink.  Using a 1-1/4" circle base to build the flower makes the process much easier.  Begin with four "petals" positioned North, South, East, and West with the tips of the "petals" meeting at approximately the middle point of the circle.  The top layer of "petals" are offset.  A Champagne Glimmer flower adds some bling to the center and hides the points underneath.  Adhere the "leaves" to the back of the circle.  The "poinsettia" is then adhered to the card base with Dimensionals.

Just a Note

Hi there!  Here we are in the middle of the week - again.  Boy the weeks sure seem to go FAST!   Let's not waste another minute and get to today's project. 
Normally, I don't make 3-D projects but this little tote containing 3x3 notes and envelopes was just too cute not to replicate!  Pam D'Urso invited us Demos for a stamping retreat weekend at her home this past summer.  When Diane Mikles and I saw Pam's tote, we CASE'd hers but used different paper for our versions - some retired Not Quite Navy cardstock and DSP.  Pam gave us some written instructions with measurments, but I honestly don't remember the person's name who wrote the tutorial.  The stamps we used came from the Postage Due set and were then punched out with the coordinating punch.  The border strip was made from an image found in Mosaic Madness.  The Decorative Label punch was used to create a "handle".  The only directions I could find that are similar to Pam's version were on Beth Beard's blog.  You can view her video here.  This would make a darling little hostess gift.  The holiday season will soon be upon us and that means parties to attend!  I'm just saying...

Putting on the Spritz - Postage Due

Hi there!  This will be a quick post today - nursing a migraine.  Sorry, don't mean to be complaining.  Now on to the card.

The inspiration and technique for today's card came from Connie Stewart in her "Girls Gone Wild Wednesday" blog series seen here (scroll down to her May 29th post).  Connie referred to Margaret Rabum as being responsible for her inspiration.  Inking up a clear block with a stamp pad was not new to me.  I just never thought about using three different colors!  Duh!  The collage image of the Postage Due stamp lends itself perfectly to this technique.  I don't know the name of the technique so I'll call it clear block spritzing.  It is so easy!  All you do is add some ink to your clear block directly from the ink pad going from lightest to darkest color.  Don't worry about the lines or overlapping.  That's where the water spritzer comes in!  Spritz the clear block with a little water before stamping onto your light colored cardstock.   Those harsh lines disappear!  When the cardstock is dry (a heat tool could also be used to speed up the drying process), stamp your image.  How fun!  Give it a try and let me know how it turns out for you.
